Overview:
- Welcome again! I did it again… Oh how I love to code and make games… Now I left Duckly Escape 1 with a cliffhanger, right? Yes! For this! Duckly Escape 2… With much more and deeper lore, crazy new and cool features and ofc why!
- I had a plan to continue making the Duck game from the start of the first game. I want this game to have 3 parts. This is the second so there will be one more and one last part! I did this game solo too. It toke me longer since its more complex and challenging + it has more code and art stuff that I needed to do in these 5 Months.
- Now for the main focus, ducky/the player went in the first game through the portal. It didn’t bring him home no no no… I’m not that nice. The player got sent into a dungeon-like environment. But what’s that? An enemy from the first game followed him! But chill he’s not bad, he’s very nice and wants to see new worlds. So, they get along pretty well and try to survive the Dungeons ahead of them.
Mechanics:
- You can Jump, Move and die. Obviously. But you can also shoot! Yes, a whole new mechanic is in the game, with the help of this new companion you can shoot the enemies down
You also must find out about the Dungeon. By collecting Keys and Opening the matching doors with them
- And do not worry, your game progression will be saved too!

Tasks and how I’ve done it:
- This Project was in my head since Duckly Escape 1, but I wanted to finish it as a university Project for my 5th Semester. So, I did that. But I had to focus on one Department, so I choose Level design.
I first started with collecting my thoughts, the duck went through a green/blue portal, so the environment can’t look purple again and must be different. So, I made many mood boards, and I came up with the idea to also do something different, a dungeon.
- I started doing sketches for the Levels, morphing them into layouts and later drawing them for the Finals, obviously I had to change some stuff, but it worked well. Later I put the final design as a white box in the Engine and I could test it.
- It worked well so I started drawing some 2D stuff (because I couldn’t find all the assets I needed) and I managed to finale out all the Levels like, putting in the lights, shadows, sprites, colors and animations.
- I couldn’t do much programming at that time, so I focused only on the Level design part and on an LDD, but when the semester was over it toke me 2-3 weeks to program everything. Like = Key/Door mechanic, Save Mechanic, Map mechanic, Health System, Portal System, Enemy System, Boss Phases + Systems, and much more.
- Fun facts, I made all the Cutscenes myself inside Unity. Not with drawings, only with Keys and Events and the Animator
- And at the end I had many ongoing playtests, I also presented this game at the DeDeCo 2026 as a demo version and got good feedback + I presented it after the release at the Lange Nacht der computerspiele.
- Fun facts, i have 44 Scripts for this, made only by myself + Art and Idea (Cutscenes and everything) was made completly solo :D
